Firefighters spent hours battling a blaze at a licensed medical marijuana grow operation in Langley.

The four-alarm fire broke out at around 10 a.m. on Thursday at a building at 230th Street and Fraser Highway. The building is used by more than one business, including a grow-op with a permit from Health Canada.

The building was so engulfed that firefighters spent the first couple of hours on scene fighting from the street. They were not able to get inside until later in the day.

Deputy Fire Chief Bruce Ferguson said there was a dangerous mix of gases fueling the blaze.

"We know for sure there is pressurized CO2, there's some pressurized butane and there's a propane forklift," Ferguson told CTV News.

The gases were being used as part of the grow-op.

By the afternoon, firefighters had the blaze under control, but were still putting out hot spots and small flames.

Firefighters have not yet discovered the cause of the fire, but said the RCMP are involved in its investigation.

"There was one person seen fleeing the scene when the firefighters arrived," Ferguson said.

Ferguson said no injuries had been reported.
