An estranged husband has been charged with murder after his wife was found shot to death in her Abbotsford home, according to police.

Police were asked by an out-of-town family member to check up on the well-being of Leanne Friesen at her home in the 34800-block of Cassiar Court on Wednesday night.

When they arrived, officers found the 40-year-old woman’s body in the garage with fatal gunshot wounds.

Her husband, Jeffrey Friesen, 40, was arrested on scene and taken into custody. He has now been charged with the second-degree murder of his wife.

Friesen remains in police custody and first appears in court on Feb. 12 at 9:30 a.m.
