A B.C. couple is lucky to be alive after the small helicopter they were flying was forced to make an emergency landing in a farmer’s field Saturday night.

Mounties say a 55-year-old man and his wife were the sole occupants of the “homemade and experimental” helicopter that went down around 5:45 p.m. near the Langley Airport.

The helicopter ended up on its side, and a small amount of fuel leaked out.

The couple was not injured, and no other people or property were affected by the crash.

The RCMP says the pilot, who is also the owner of the helicopter, will be following up with the Transportation Safety Board next week.
