Three companies have been fined for fixing the price of gasoline in two eastern Ontario cities.

Canadian Tire, Pioneer Energy, and Mr. Gas pleaded guilty to price-fixing under the federal Competition Act.

The three companies were fined a total of $2 million.

The Competition Bureau says drivers in Kingston and Brockville paid artificially high prices for gasoline over a span of seven months in 2007.

The bureau's investigators found gasoline retailers or their representatives phoned each other during that seven-month period, and agreed on the pump price they would charge.
