Businesses in downtown Vancouver will be open today -- but they admit it will be "business unusual" as protesters continue to occupy the lawn of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association says protest marches could cause rolling road closures around the downtown core at around noon.

It also says weekend rallies and marches cut attendance at the art gallery and affected pedestrian traffic to nearby businesses.

Vancouver councillor Geoff Meggs says the demonstrators have the right to protest and there is no plan to limit the sit-in -- as long as it remains peaceful.

Protesters camped out say they'll stay "as long as it takes" to fight corporate greed and social inequity.

Several dozen tents went up Saturday as the Occupy Wall Street protests stretched around the world, reaching Vancouver, Victoria and several other cities across B.C.

Demonstrators in Victoria held a meeting at their Centennial Square sit-in site yesterday as they organize for what they expect will be a long stay.

Some of the practical issues in Victoria include setting up a bank account for any expenses and arranging a field kitchen to accept food donations and prepare meals for the tent city occupants.
