Police have arrested the most elusive alleged Stanley Cup rioter and recommended 200 additional criminal charges against 50 other suspected rioters.

Police said investigators tracked Jonathan Stephen Mahoney, 24, across Canada from Manitoba to Newfoundland before arresting him in Lanigan, Sask. Tuesday.

Mahoney, who was flown back to Vancouver Wednesday, will face charges of participating in a riot, assault, assault with a weapon and two counts of mischief.

Mahoney was the last suspect in the assault of Robert Mackay, who was swarmed, beaten and knocked to the ground by 15 rioters while trying to protect a department store from being looted.

The attack was caught on video and charges were laid against 14 of the 15 participants.

Police said Wednesday they have now delivered a total of 872 charges against 275 people allegedly involved in the riot, which raged in downtown Vancouver after the Canucks lost Game 7 to the Bruins in the Stanley Cup final.

In the latest round of recommendations to Crown, 44 men and six women between the ages of 14 and 39 are facing charges.

Police said 24 per cent of the suspected rioters are from Vancouver and 76 per cent are from outside the city.

Twelve suspected rioters are from Vancouver, 11 are from Surrey, 25 are from other Lower Mainland municipalities, two are from B.C.’s Interior and two are from outside the province.

Of the rioters sentenced so far, seven have received jail time, one has received a conditional sentence and one was given a suspended sentence.
