VANCOUVER - Separate head-on crashes in British Columbia between cars and tractor-trailers claimed two lives in as many days.

A 40-year-old Surrey man was killed early Wednesday morning when his car veered into the path of a big rig in Delta, south of Vancouver.

Delta Police say the victim died on the way to hospital.

The man was later identified as Steve Malhi. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help cover the cost of his funeral, and to support his two young children. The page raised more than $45,000 in a single day.

The driver of the transport truck was not physically hurt, but police say he was being treated for shock.

RCMP in Golden say an unidentified man died at about 7:30 Tuesday morning when a car stolen in Calgary crossed the centre line and slammed head-on into an oncoming tractor-trailer just west of the Alberta boundary.

The driver of the truck was not hurt and the causes of both crashes remain under investigation.
