Legendary Van Morrison has announced a return to Vancouver with a performance at Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) on August 7th with very special guest Mavis Staples.

Few artists have had as long and respected a career as Van Morrison. From his early days fronting the British rock band Them ("Gloria", "Here Comes the Night") to a storied solo career that helped set the tone for the '60s ("Moondance", "And It Stoned Me", "Into the Mystic") and the '70s ("Wild Night", "Domino"), the Irish singer has always been a leader, never a follower. Many of his jazz-, blues-, rock-, and soul-influenced records are considered classics (Tupelo Honey, Astral Weeks), while Van's velvety voice is among the best known and most distinctive in all of contemporary rock. Nor has Van's productivity slowed down, or the quality of his albums deteriorated—more recent releases like No Guru No Method No Teacher, Back on Top, and his latest Pay the Devil are regarded as among his very best. He is also highly respected for his songwriting abilities and, in 2003, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Naturally, his fans are legion, and the announcement of any new Morrison activity—a record, a special concert—is greeted with excitement by the faithful, many of whom think nothing of traveling great distances to see a Van Morrison performance. His upcoming Vancouver show will not only be among the most anticipated of the year, they will be a chance to see one of the all-time great artists at the top of his form, singing songs millions know, and feel, by heart.
