Heavy winds have knocked out power to about 10,000 BC Hydro customers in the Fraser Valley.

BC Hydro spokesman Greg Alexis says most of the outages were caused when high winds brought down tree branches on power lines Sunday.

He says customers have been affected in Surrey, Langley, Mission, Abbotsford and Chilliwack.

Alexis says hydro crews will continue to work until power is restored.

He reminded people to keep a flashlight and extra batteries close by in case heavy winds knock out power again.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Metro Vancouver, reporting that southeast winds of up to 100 kilometres an hour are expected to develop overnight or into Monday morning.
