The operators of the Phil Bouvier Family Centre in Strathcona have said that Vancouver Native Health is evicting them on July 31 to make room for a First Nations-only daycare.

"It feels very discriminatory," said Carolin Rigby, mother of Ella Rigby, who attends the daycare.

"If they want to do a Native-only daycare by all means, but I don't think evicting 50 kids is the right way to go about it," added father Ryan Rigby.

CTV News asked Vancouver Native Health to confirm that the daycare will become a First Nations-only facility. Executive Director Lou Demerais did not return a phone call.

For now, parents of children at the daycare have been told to expect the worst, that their daycare will be gone at the end of July.

"There are wait lists of 300 to 400 kids at many daycares in Vancouver, said Rigby. "It's literally impossible to find another daycare."
