Police and archaeology teams will excavate an East Vancouver home in hopes of finding the remains of a woman who was last seen more than 30 years ago, the VPD announced Wednesday.

Const. Jana McGuinness says new information about the disappearance of a woman in 1977 has led them to a housing complex at 4842 Rupert Street.

VPD Major Crime and Missing Persons Investigators will be aided by a team from the Simon Fraser School of Archaeology to "conduct a thorough search and excavation" of a unit in the building.

Sgt. Laurence Rankin said the floor will be removed.

The teams could be there for more than a week, focusing efforts in the basement.

Police are not releasing the name of the woman but say she was in her 40s.

No missing person's report was filed at the time of her disappearance.
