Vancouver police are investigating after a woman was sexually assaulted jogging through Stanley Park Monday morning.

The victim was near Lost Lagoon when a man grabbed her from behind, knocked her to the ground and groped her around 8:30 a.m.

Police said she managed to fight her attacker off and wasn’t physically injured, but did suffer significant emotional distress.

The suspect fled on foot and officers were unable to locate him in the area.

Police are asking the public to help identify a suspect described as an Aboriginal man in his late 30s or early 40s who weighs about 190 pounds.

He was wearing a dark baseball cap, a dark jacket and dark pants that were covered in mud.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Vancouver Police Sex Crimes Unit at 604-717-0602 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if they wish to remain anonymous.
