Two men have been injured in an apparent drive-by shooting that left a Surrey home riddled with bullet holes Friday night.

The men were shot outside a home in the 5700 block of 152 Street, just before 10 p.m. according to Surrey RCMP.

Witness Dave Simm heard the gunfire erupt after putting his son to sleep.

“We were sitting there watching TV, all of a sudden we heard this ‘ra-ta-ta-ta-ta’. Bunch of shots, probably one round of a semi-automatic,” Simm said. “[We] heard some people yelling and screaming ‘Get in the car, get in the car!’ And after that we stayed down here hidden.”

Sonny Wasacase was out walking his dog when he heard the gunshots.

“When I heard it I thought it was firecrackers going off because I saw the lights flashing too,” Wasacase said. “Then all of a sudden I heard a ‘ting’ and then I knew it was like a bullet. It hit something metal like the fence.”

Witnesses reported seeing a dark-coloured sedan flee the scene immediately after the shooting.

Police say the shooting does appear to be targeted, but they don’t know if it’s related to recent shootings in the city.

“It’s just too early to say whether or not this particular shooting has any relationship to our series of 17 shootings that are linked to a street-level drug trade turf war,” said Surrey RCMP Stg. Dale Carr.

Police won’t say how many shots were fired, but several bullet casings could be seen on the street.

Residents said it’s concerning to have a public shooting in their neighbourbood.

“I was terrified,” Jasbir Padda told CTV News. “There were about 10 police cars around and it was like a war zone.”

“[It’s] a little bit nerve-racking to have something like this so close to home,” said neighbour Dean Hintz. “The fact that my son might walk here to go get milk ... and that there’s actually a drive-by shooting just down the street from us.”

Police haven’t yet identified the victims who are both in their twenties, and are hoping to speak to them in hospital.

Their injuries aren’t yet known.

This is the second shooting in Surrey this week. Shots rang out on a restaurant patio on Monday but no one was injured.

“The risk and the peril to passersby and to people not involved in their conflict is extremely high,” Sgt. Carr said. “It makes us very concerned for the community's safety.”
