Investigators haven't determined whether street racing led to the death of a popular Langley, B.C. teen this weekend, but are urging witnesses to the crash to come forward.

Eighteen-year-old Dylan Reichelt, the son of BC Lions trainer Bill Reichelt, died Saturday night after the BMW he was a passenger in lost control, flipped over and crashed into a tree in the Brookwood neighbourhood of Langley.

The car had been travelling nearby a Mazda carrying two other teens. That vehicle also left the road and crashed into a hedge.

RCMP Cpl. Holly Marks said the young people in the two cars were close with each other.

"They're life-long friends. Whether the vehicles were side-by-side, behind each other, we simply do not have this information at this time," she said.

Police have confirmed that wet weather and speed likely contributed to the crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, but Mounties have not determined whether the cars were street racing.

"Since the media coverage last night, we've had one witness come forward, and of course we would love to speak to everyone else as well," Marks said.

At a roadside memorial Monday near the site of the crash on 36th Avenue, mourners described Reichelt as the class clown who was kind to others.

The teen was training to become a professional golfer, and he was supposed to play in a Florida golf tournament this weekend. He also refereed for Langley Minor Hockey games and helped out with the Lions football team.
