Police believe speed may have been a contributing factor in the Saturday evening two-vehicle crash in Richmond that left a 76-year-old man dead.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Westminster Highway and No. 4 Road shortly before 7 p.m.

The 36-year-old male driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.

Richmond RCMP say the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service was called to the scene and had portions of Westminster Highway shut down until 2 a.m. while conducting the investigation.

The name of the deceased man has not yet been released.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

This is the third serious collision in Richmond in the past week, and sixth vehicle related fatality this year,  prompting police to remind drivers to be aware on the roads, especially of winter driving conditions and speed.
