The former live-in girlfriend of Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger wants to keep living like a rock star, and she's asking for nearly $100,000 a month in alimony to do it.
The 36-year-old rocker, also known as Chad Robert Turton, lived with paramour Marianna Goriuk for about seven years in palatial Abbotsford digs before they separated in 2009. The "Rockstar" singer and his gal lived out the lyrics of the hit song, taking private jets to their vacation home in Mexico and hopping on helicopters to party in Vancouver.
Since their separation two years ago, Kroeger has been supporting Goriuk with $10,000 monthly payments, but she claims that the extravagant lifestyle the couple enjoyed warrants nearly 10 times that amount -- about $95,760.
The matter is set to go to trial this summer, but on Thursday, a B.C. Supreme Court judge ruled that Kroeger must increase his monthly alimony payments to $25,000 after taxes until then.
Kroeger earns more than $9.7 million per year as the lead singer of Nickelback. In a stark contrast, Goriuk makes just $12,000 as a horse trainer, but says she hopes to someday pursue a dream career in designing barns.
The two met at a Nickelback concert in Edmonton in 2002; Goriuk was working as a hairdresser in Camrose, Alta. at the time. Four months later, Kroeger had convinced her to live with him in B.C. when she wasn't travelling with the band.
In happier times, the pair bought a home together in Cabo, Mexico and built a mansion on a 20-acre property in Abbotsford. The massive home includes an indoor hockey rink.
After the split, Goriuk moved in with her parents in the Agassiz home she built for them.
Despite constant mockery from music snobs, Nickelback is one of the most successful bands in Canadian history, selling more than 35 million albums worldwide.
