Search and rescue efforts are over but the avalanche risk remains high in the southeastern B.C. park where an Alberta skier was killed in an avalanche on the weekend.

The province is experiencing some of the worst avalanche conditions in decades, and bad weather briefly stranded a search and rescue crew at a remote cabin in Kokanee Glacier Park on Monday.

The rescue crew was taken off the mountain later in the day, but the 14 skiers in the Alberta man's group remained at a remote lodge in the park.

The avalanche danger rating throughout most of the Columbia and Rocky Mountain ranges remains high.

Two brothers from Calgary were also killed in a slide in Kananaskis Country in Alberta on the weekend.

The Trans-Canada Highway near Golden remains closed because of the high risk of the avalanche hazard and several other routes are being closed for slide mitigation work.
