An elementary school in Langley, B.C., was locked down for a short time Friday afternoon after a police-ordered lockdown.

Langley RCMP told staff at Alice Brown Elementary School to keep kids inside after receiving multiple calls about shots fired in the area.

Const. Holly Marks confirms the first calls about shots being fired in the area of 44th Ave. and 201st Ave. came in at 2:46 p.m.

RCMP allowed the students to leave the school roughly an hour after the calls came in.

Police have not located any parties that may be involved, but Marks says they have found an abandoned vehicle they believe may be connected to the calls and are now trying to locate the car's owner.

Marks says police recovered evidence from the vehicle for them to believe it is linked to the shots fired calls, but did not elaborate.

There have been more than 40 shootings in Metro Vancouver since mid-January -- 17 of them fatal.
