B.C. Attorney General Wally Oppal is now trailing in a recount of the May 12 election and could lose his seat to an Independent challenger.

Elections BC said Monday that challenger Vicki Huntington now has a 13-vote lead over Oppal, who is a former B.C. Supreme Court judge and one of the province's most high-profile politicians.

Though Oppal currently trails Huntington, the final result in the Delta South riding won't be known until 918 absentee ballots are totalled.

Meanwhile, though the Liberals are in danger of losing Oppal's seat, the party could pick up a seat in the Cariboo-Chilcotin riding.

On election night, NDP candidate Charlie Wyse took the interior riding by a margin of only 23 votes.

But according to officials, Liberal candidate Donna Barnett now leads Wyse by 59 votes, with 977 absentee votes still to be counted.

The 82-vote difference after the recount is attributed to calculation errors made at one voting station.

The absentee ballots won't be counted until Wednesday and a final victory in both races could be further postponed by judicial recounts.
