The Coast Guard is searching for a man who disappeared after the dinghy he was travelling in capsized near Mayne Island, B.C.

Two men set out in the dinghy from Lyle Harbour on Saturna Island at around 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to Daniel Mazurek from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria, B.C.

They were intending to travel to Horton Bay, which is 23 miles northeast of Victoria, in a rowing dinghy, Mazurek said.

Only one man made it to shore after the dinghy capsized. He was able to get to Horton bay where he contacted RCMP early Saturday morning, Mazurek said.

Numerous resources have been deployed to aid in the search, including a Cormorant helicopter, Coast Guard hovercraft, lifeboat and two auxiliary boats.

So far, no evidence of the missing man has been found.

Both men aboard the dinghy are described as young. The identity of the missing man has not been confirmed.
