Mounties are crediting a father in Surrey for thwarting the attempted abduction of his four-year-old daughter.

The man and his child were at Holland Park in central Surrey on Saturday when a man allegedly walked into the playground and started talking to the girl.

Police say the girl’s father confronted the man after finding out what the man said to his young daughter. Police won't reveal what was said during the conversation, as it is now evidence in the case against the suspect.

“The male eventually departed the park, however, returned a few minutes later after changing his clothing. Upon observing the male return to the playground the father immediately grabbed his daughter,” said Surrey RCMP Sgt. Dale Carr in a statement.

The father called 911 after the man allegedly started shouting at the duo.

The suspect fled the park on a bicycle but was arrested several blocks away by duty officers, Carr said.

Police say the father “did the right thing” by alerting police, and potentially avoided a more serious situation.

“He was keeping an eye on his child in the park, intervened when he was suspicious of an issue,” said Carr.

Adam Richard Beedle, 32, is charged with attempted abduction, uttering a threat and possessing a controlled substance.

Beedle, who does not have a fixed address, is due to make his first court appearance Wednesday.
