Months after a double-stabbing in downtown Victoria that left one victim dead, a suspect has been charged with murder.

Robert Henry Travers was previously charged with aggravated assault in connection with the March 31 stabbing, which was reported at a hostel on Pandora Avenue.

Police found one victim dead at the scene. The other was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An additional count of second-degree murder was approved against Travers on Thursday, the Victoria Police Department said.

Authorities have not released any more information about the incident, including what led up to the double-stabbing.

"As this case is now before the courts, further details cannot be shared, and the family of the victim is requesting privacy at this time," VicPD said in a news release.

Travers remains in custody pending a future court date.

Court documents indicate the accused, who was born in 1960, does not have a prior criminal record in British Columbia.
