A 62-year-old B.C. woman who cheated seniors and a care home out of more than $800,000 has been sentenced to seven a half years in jail.

In handing down the term on Judith Slobbe, a Provincial Court judge in Richmond said her duplicity was virtually pathological and her conniving knew no bounds.

Slobbe worked in the accounting department of Richmond's Fraserview Care Lodge and defrauded the family business of more than $700,000.

She later moved to Port Alberni on Vancouver Island, where she befriended lonely, elderly people and persuaded them to lend her thousands of dollars which she never repaid.

People who knew her said she used the money to buy expensive clothes, crystal and take trips overseas.

She pleaded guilty last October to stealing money from the Fraserview Care Home, and in March admitted to a dozen charges of fraud and theft involving seniors in Port Alberni.
