It wasn't exactly how they'd hoped to see the Stanley Cup come home but hundreds of fans lined up for hours in Surrey, B.C., to get a glimpse of the sport's top prize.

Former Chicago Blackhawks centre Colin Fraser brought hockey's Holy Grail to his hometown and was met with raucous cheers as he lifted the cup over his head.

Fraser played 70 regular season and three playoff games for the Blackhawks last season, before he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers late last month.

The 25-year-old saluted the crowd and apologized to Vancouver Canucks fans for beating their team in last season's National Hockey League playoffs.

Fraser, who was joined at the event by Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts, then signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans.

Chicago's championship team featured several B.C. boys who will get to bring the cup to their hometowns, including star defenders Brent Seabrook of Tsawwassen and Duncan Keith of Penticton.
