MONTREAL -

The cold temperatures forced a water main to break Saturday morning in Point St. Charles.

The break happened at about 6:30 a.m. on Grand Trunk St. at Charlevoix St.

Four people were evacuated into the frigid -15 Celsius weather.

Both electricity and water were cut off in the area.

Firefighters were able to stop the spill around 8:30 a.m. and construction workers assessed the damage.

"We'll knock down the walls partially and remove the insulation. Otherwise, the water will stay inside," said Francois Guerard of Lecabel Construction.

As many as 11 homes are affected by the breakage, and those on the ground floor will not be able to return for three to four days.
