Searchers looking for a missing North Vancouver man on Cypress Mountain found a body Saturday afternoon.

But an RCMP spokeswoman said Saturday night that a positive identification of the body had not yet been made.

Dozens of search and rescue members, joined by family and friends, launched an intensive search Saturday for 70-year-old Edward "Barry" Sharp.

Family members say Sharp was a man who was at home in the mountains.

"He went out on a hike Monday without notifying anybody," his son, Ryan Sharp, said. "His 70th birthday was Wednesday. I started looking for him ... and his family back east started looking for him. By Thursday, I knew something was wrong."

Sharp's daughter, Laura, flew in from Ontario.

"I need to be here for my brother, my sister-in-law and my dad, not waiting 3,000 miles away wondering what's going on," she said.

As the day went on new tips sent searchers in different directions.

Then in the afternoon a promising new clue from the Cypress ski patrol sent searchers to the Howe Sound Crest Trail.

Searchers raced to the rugged mountain trail.

But what they found was not what the family was hoping for -- a body.

RCMP officials say they expect to have an update on Sunday.
