Search and rescuers have not been able to locate a missing 70-year-old B.C. man who is believed to have gone hiking on Cypress Mountain earlier in the week.

Edward "Barry" Sharp's family told RCMP that they believe Sharp set out for Cypress Mountain or Hollyburn Ridge on Monday. They believe he took a bus to the mountain from his home in North Vancouver.

Two helicopters and 30 people on the ground are aiding in the search. They're combing the area from Cleveland Dam to Hollyburn Mountain.

Sharp's family didn't alert RCMP until Thursday night.

Sharp is described as an avid hiker. He typically wears jeans and carries a navy Eddie Bauer backpack.

A massive search effort is set for Saturday.
