Mixed marital arts fighting could soon be coming to Vancouver, according to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White, who made the prediction during a press conference in Philadelphia on Thursday.
The sport of Ultimate Fighting is not regulated in B.C. and Vancouver banned the sport in 2007.
However, it is hugely popular. Vancouver is one of the top ten cities per capita in the world for UFC pay-per-view buys.
Local fighters believe an event at General Motors Place would sell out in five minutes. They believe the ban will ultimately be lifted.
Canadian Mixed Martial Arts Champion Paul Lazenby is optimistic that Vancouver UFC fans will soon see a high profile match in this city.
"City Council would have to have their heads buried in the sand ten feet deep if they didn't allow this to happen,'' Lazenby said.
