The 14-year-old student who suffered slash wounds to her arm at an East Vancouver high school on Monday has recanted her story about being attacked by a group of girls.

Sir Charles Tupper High School was put on lockdown at around 1:30 p.m. following a report that three suspects believed to be in their mid-teens had entered the building and cut a student with a knife.

After investigating overnight, police say they no longer believe an altercation took place and are no longer searching for any suspects.

A student did suffer non-life threatening knife wounds, which were treated with stitches at the BC Children's Hospital, but she has told police the wounds were self-inflicted.

Police say they are working to assist the girl and her family however possible.
