Mounties say a 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash over the weekend.
The Coquitlam resident, who has not been named, is expected to appear in court Monday.
Two women were killed after a white Jeep Grand Cherokee swiped an SUV that was stopped on the shoulder of Lougheed Highway early Saturday morning.
Police say the SUV had struck a concrete barrier near Pitt River Road, and one of the deceased, Charlene Reaveley, was a Good Samaritan who approached the vehicle to check on the occupants.
Reaveley was the mother of four children, ages one to 10. "She was a good, caring, loving mother and friend," brother-in-law Mike Reavely told CTV News.
Police say her husband witnessed the crash, but was not physically injured.
Both Reaveley and the other victim, who was driving the SUV, died at the scene. A male in the passenger seat was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his leg and head.
The Jeep, which was not reported stolen, was found abandoned a short distance from the crash site.
Police say the suspect is facing numerous criminal charges, but would not elaborate.
