A protest that disrupted traffic for hours Thursday morning on the Arthur Laing Bridge, which connects South Vancouver to Richmond and the Vancouver International Airport, has ended.
Demonstrators set up a blockade beginning at 7:30 a.m. to protest a pending condo development at the Marpole Midden, an ancient aboriginal village and burial site located near the north end of the bridge.
Musqueam officials say human remains have already been unearthed at the site, which dates back to the first pyramids in Egypt, and immediate action is needed to protect it.
Protest organizers said blocking traffic on the bridge was a last-ditch effort to attract attention after months of fruitless requests for government help halting the development.
The protest ended at around 10 a.m.
Mounties issued a warning late Wednesday night that commuters who rely on the bridge should consider finding an alternative route.
