Former Vancouver Canucks captain Trevor Linden may be a natural when it comes to ice hockey, but admits the virtual version is something different altogether.

"I wish I was better at it, but I'm learning," the man dubbed Captain Canuck joked.

The retired hockey legend got a taste of Electronic Arts' video game NHL 10 at a promotional event in Vancouver.

Over his impressive hockey career, Linden has consulted with the Vancouver-based gaming company for several years. He says he's impressed by what he sees.

"I haven't seen the game in a few years and I'm amazed at all the things they've added," he said. "The crowd noises, the board play, the fighting component."

Linden adds the player movements are remarkable, especially those of Swedish sensation Henrik Sedin.

"When I see Henrik take the face-off that's exactly how he takes the face-off," he said.

"Just the hand position and the movements he makes before he takes the draw I laugh because that's exactly how he does it."

Linden has been asked to carry the Olympic torch during a leg of the 45,000 kilometre torch relay, beginning in Victoria on Oct. 30. He says he's honoured, but still isn't sure which leg he'll be running in the cross-country journey.

Other athletes slated to carry the torch are Calgary golfer Stephen Ames and NBA great and Victoria native Steve Nash.
