Police in New Westminster have arrested and flown a fugitive back to his home province of Alberta, and say they won't hesitate to do it again.

The force launched an investigation into Gary Wayne Templeton after several incidents they describe as escalating in nature, including the robbery of a Starbucks coffee shop and unprovoked attacks on two police officers.

Investigators soon learned that the 44-year-old was wanted for breach of probation in Calgary since 2003.

Under guarded escort, police flew Templeton back to Alberta Wednesday, where he remains in the custody of the Calgary police.

"The New Westminster Police Service will continue to pursue, arrest, and return fugitives from justice wanted in other provinces who pose a risk to any citizens of this city," Const. Bruce Carrie wrote.
