VICTORIA - Nineteen new cases of swine flu were confirmed Saturday for a total of 79 cases in British Columbia.

The B.C. Health Ministry says the individuals are either recovered or are recovering.

The ministry says the large jump in the numbers represents a catch up in the lab work at the BC Centre for Disease Control.

British Columbia's confirmed cases include 32 in the Fraser Valley, two in the southern Interior, 13 in in the northern Interior, 22 in the Metro Vancouver area and 10 on Vancouver Island.

Hans Helgesen elementary school in Metchosin on southern Vancouver Island will reopen May 11 after closing May 5 when flu-like illness affected 25 to 30 per cent of students.

Test results for the H1N1 flu virus were negative.
