VANCOUVER - Health officials say six more people have been diagnosed with the H1N1 flu virus, bringing the total number of cases to 60 in the province.

The BC Centre for Disease Control says 26 of those cases are in the Fraser Valley and 17 are in the Metro Vancouver area, with the rest spread throughout B.C.

An elementary school in Vernon that closed last week after one student came down with the swine flu re-opened its doors Friday.

And a school in Metchosin on southern Vancouver Island will re-open Monday after officials ruled out H1N1 after up to 30 per cent of the students stayed home with some type of flu-like illness.

But another school near Burns Lake, B.C., that closed a week ago will keep its doors shut after some of the sick students tested positive for the H1N1 flu.

Meanwhile, officials in Alberta have confirmed that a woman in that province has died after contracting swine flu, although they say she had a pre-existing chronic condition.
