Buyer beware - rental listings during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games may not be all that they appear.

Andrew Newman's sister has a 6,200 square foot home for sale. It's located just below Cypress Mountain, and even once housed a famous celebrity.

"I can't reveal who stayed here, but it was an A-list movie star," Newman said.

It would be a beautiful house to rent during the Olympics, and it was in fact listed on a 2010 rental website. There's only one problem: the house was never for rent.

But that didn't stop an unidentified poster from using pictures of the home on the website Rental2010.ca -- at a price of $16,000.

The ad didn't have a contact name or phone number attached, and Newman suspects foul play.

"I'm guessing someone is trying to dupe someone from overseas who can't check out the house," he said.

After being alerted to the situation, the site's operator removed the ad and it's poster from their database.

But even though the operator says he will start charging for ads and asking for phone numbers, Newman is not impressed.

"I think it's outrageous nobody's monitoring what's being sold to people who are not from Vancouver," he said. "You're not gonna know any better."

"And I think there's gonna be a lot of people who are unhappy when they arrive in February 2010."
