Mounties are searching for two drivers who witnessed a horrific collision that killed a 22-year-old pedestrian near the Burnaby BCIT campus last week.

The victim, who has been identified as Coquitlam resident Shiloh Johnston, was taking a walk on her lunch break when a white Infinity and grey Volkswagen crashed on Canada Way on Feb. 17.

The impact sent the Infinity careening across two lanes of traffic before it slammed into a power pole and struck Johnston, throwing her up to 40 feet from the scene.

She was rushed to Royal Columbian Hospital with a traumatic head injury, but couldn’t be saved.

Investigators believe speed may have been a factor in the crash.

On Wednesday, the RCMP announced it has obtained surveillance video from the area and identified two vehicles that were nearby at the time of the crash.

Mounties are now working to track down the drivers in the hopes they will have information to help their case.

One vehicle is described as a red car that was leaving the northwest parking lot of BCIT and heading eastbound onto Canada Way. The other is a black pickup truck that was travelling on the same road in the same direction.

Anyone with information on the drivers’ identities is asked to call Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services at 604-294-7922.

A crowdfunding campaign has been started to help raise money for a memorial fund as well as to help cover funeral expenses of both Johnston and her sister, who died 10 days earlier. Any money collected past the initial goal of $50,000 will go towards charitable causes. The campaign can be accessed here.
