A shooting in Coquitlam Friday night lead to a flaming pickup truck barreling into a firetruck hours later, investigators confirmed.

Just after 6 p.m., Mounties responded to reports of shots fired between a pickup truck and a Mercedes at Guildford Way and Johnson Street.

A woman inside a bullet-riddled Mercedes suffered non-serious injuries, and was taken to hospital. Officers would not confirm whether she had been shot or not.

The suspect vehicle was found engulfed in flames on Charter Hill Drive, where it barreled into a firetruck after exploding several times.

Investigators say whoever fired the shots did so from the pickup truck, intentionally torching it on a quiet street and fleeing the scene.

Blair Mitchell lives nearby, and witnessed the incident.

“I came down and saw the fire truck hit by the burnt out truck. They were just getting it put out at that point,” he told CTV News, noting he also saw the injured woman.

“They were tending to a young lady, and pulling glass out of her hair. It looked like that was the vehicle that got shot.”

The houses on the cul-de-sac narrowly avoided serious fire damage, but the firetruck and pickup were badly damaged.

An investigation is ongoing.
