B.C. Mounties have released a sketch of the man they believe is responsible for a series of sex attacks against young women at the University of British Columbia.

Six young women have been assaulted on the UBC campus, with incidents dating back to April. The latest happened last week, when a student was grabbed from behind while walking home alone. It is believed the same person is responsible for all of the incidents.

The attacker is described as a tall, thin Caucasian man with a tan or olive skin tone. He is believed to be in his mid-20s to early 30s.

At a noon press conference, Sgt. Peter Thiessen appealed to local businesses on campus to put up a poster with the man’s image, in order to help get the word out.

“This is the man we need to get into custody,” he told reporters.

There have been 20 tips “with varying validity” submitted to RCMP since two dedicated tip lines were established last week.

Several persons of interest have been identified in the case, Thiessen said, but there is not a definitive suspect.

Thiessen warned women on campus to remain “extra vigilant” while a suspect is still on the loose, and said concerned students should take advantage of the university’s Safe Walk program.

University brass hope the sketch will lead to a break in the case.

“These attacks have become our priority,” said Louise Cowin, Vice-President of Students.

UBC has stepped up security measures in the wake of the violent attacks, including extra patrols around residences and a new “RezWalk” program.

RCMP are asking the campus and broader community to view the drawing, and provide any tips to RCMP tip lines: 778-290-5291 or 1-877-543-4822.
