Before you buy a new car, you want to make sure you’ll be happy. A good way to tell is to hear whether owners of that vehicle would buy their car again. Consumer Reports surveyed 350,000 car owners to find out which are the most and the least-loved cars on the market.

The Corvette Stingray is the best-loved sports car, with 95 per cent of owners saying they’d buy the car again.

Mazda also has a loyal following. 81 per cent of Mazda 6 owners said they’d definitely buy it again, and Mazda 3 owners are also enthusiastic.

“Mazda is really on the rise in terms of owner satisfaction because of great fuel economy and sporty driving experience,” said Jake Fisher, Consumer Reports’ director of auto testing.

The Subaru Forester is the best-loved small SUV, and for midsized SUVs, the Toyota Highlander V6 came out on top.

The best-loved car overall is the Tesla Model S; 98 per cent of owners said they’d definitely buy it again.

Hybrid owners are especially happy with their cars, according to the survey. The Honda Accord Hybrid is the best-loved midsized; the Chevrolet Volt, the best-loved compact; and the Toyota Prius C is the best-loved subcompact.

Then there are the least-loved cars. The Nissan Versa is down at the bottom. Only 42 per cent of owners said they’d buy it again. It doesn’t do well in Consumer Reports’ ratings, either. The ride is jumpy, it’s noisy and the interior feels cheap.

Others at the bottom of Consumer Reports’ owner-satisfaction list include, the Jeep Compass at 43 per cent and the Kia Rio at 46 per cent. And not much better in the rankings, was the Nissan Pathfinder. Only 52 per cent of current owners said they’d definitely buy the Pathfinder again.
