KAMLOOPS, B.C. -- Firefighters from Ontario will be heading west this weekend to shore up British Columbia's wildfire battle plans.
The B.C. Wildfire Management Branch says there could be an increase in fire activity in the province's southeast this weekend because of hot, dry weather and the potential for thunderstorms and lightning.
The branch says it has asked for 21 firefighters from other provinces; an incident management team from Ontario as well as other specialized personnel will arrive on Sunday.
The firefighters will be based out of Kamloops, B.C., and the branch says they will be deployed where they are needed.
The provincial government is also warning residents of Golden, Invermere and Radium Hot Springs about smoke from a 5,000-hectare fire that's burning nearby.
That blaze is centred about 75 kilometres northeast of Golden, and the province says Parks Canada and Alberta firefighters are responding.
