Police are searching for a carjacking suspect after a collision in Surrey on Friday morning.

Few details have been provided, but RCMP said the incident began when police tried to pull over a suspicious vehicle in the area of 88th Avenue and 140th Street. The suspect fled in his Dodge Avenger, but rear-ended another vehicle.

The incident caused a chain-reaction crash involving three cars, according to witnesses. The driver of the Dodge then jumped out of his vehicle, leaving it running. The Avenger rolled through a busy intersection and crashed into some bushes near a bus stop.

The man allegedly tried to carjack an SUV, but the driver took off, so he proceeded to the next vehicle. Witnesses said he pulled a woman from the vehicle, jumped in and backed up to pick up his dog.

He then drove away from the scene, but collided with another vehicle a short time later. Police said there were no injuries from either collision.

The suspect abandoned the stolen vehicle on 137th Street, leaving the area on foot.

A police dog is searching for the suspect, who has been described as a South Asian man between the ages of 25 and 30. Police said he was wearing black, and may have had a black and white pit bull with him at the time.
