“Officers arrived to investigate and were confronted by a man with a weapon. He was challenged by police who drew their firearms, and the man was shot.”

An woman suffering multiple injuries was found inside the suite, but was declared dead at the scene.

A young girl believed to be five or six years old was rushed to hospital with undisclosed injures. The male suspect was also taken to hospital for treatment.

The woman’s death is being investigated as a homicide, the city’s third of the year.

Police have cordoned off a building with yellow tape and posted officers in front of the scene.
