1. Refuse to euthanize: A conservation officer has been suspended without pay after refusing to euthanize two five-month-old black bear cubs over the weekend. Bryce Calvastan instead tranquilized the cubs and transported them to a wildlife rehabilitation centre. His actions have prompted an outpouring of support.

2. Burning wreckage: A 45-year-old pilot from Surrey suffered second and third degree burns after crash landing his plane on a stretch of highway near Osoyoos on Tuesday. Witnesses say the pilot was able to pull himself out of the wreckage before it was completely engulfed in flames.

3. Restrictions? What restrictions? Metro Vancouver residents aren’t necessarily a rule abiding bunch when it comes to water restrictions. The government has revealed that water use is dramatically up which in turn is draining the region’s reservoirs.

4. Bringing in backup: Seventy Ontario firefighters are being brought in to help battle wildfire blazes across the province. The move comes as the provincial government believes roughly 30 wildfires will be started a day across the province.

5. Protecting boys: Starting in Sept., boys and men up to 26 will be eligible for a publicly funded HPV vaccine that offers protection from the most common sexually-transmitted infections. The province says expanding the immunization program will better protect boys and men who are more vulnerable of contracting human papillomavirus.
