More than two years after she vanished without a trace, the parents of a missing young mother are hoping new information in the case will bring her back to them.

Twenty-six-year-old Candace Shpeley has been missing since March 31, 2007.

Homicide investigators now say there have been several possible sightings of Shpeley in the past month in the same community in B.C.'s Fraser Valley.

"There have been reports of Candace being at the Price Mart Foods, Walmart and the downtown area of Chilliwack," Cpl. Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said.

The sightings were posted on a Facebook memorial page in Candace's memory, and brought to the attention of the police by her father, Barry Shpeley.

One sighting included the young mom getting into a green truck. Another indicated Shpeley was seen at a crack house in Chilliwack and is in hiding.

Carr says investigators believe she may be held against her will. Investigators have contacted the Facebook posters for more information but have not made contact yet.

Barry Shpeley says their family is living "an ongoing nightmare" since she disappeared and is urging anyone with information to contact police.

"If anybody sees my daughter -- sit on her. Call me, call police," he said. "Ask if it's her. If it's her ask her to call home."

Shpeley says the sightings in Chilliwack don't make sense to him.

"Two years and nobody has seen her and all of a sudden she's seen in being seen in Chilliwack -- I live in Chilliwack."

Candace's friends are convinced she's still alive, but wonder why the Facebook tipsters didn't contact police.

"Why didn't he try to stop her?" Angie Porisky said.

"I think a lot of people are too chicken and don't want to get involved with cops."

A living nightmare

Shpeley was last seen by her brother after they ate lunch at a Chilliwack A&W restaurant on March 31, 2007.

She was supposed to pick her children up at her father's house later in the day, but never arrived. She has three children under the age of seven.

Her car, a 1995 teal-green Pontiac Grand Am, was found in Southeast Vancouver nine days after she was reported missing.

An ongoing investigation

B.C.'s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took over the case when her disappearance was officially deemed suspicious.

Until the Fraser Valley sightings, the investigation has been heavily focused in the Guildford and Fleetwood area of Surrey where it is believed she was visiting friends the night of the disappearance.

There has been no activity on her credit cards or cellular phone, and she does not have a passport.

Police feel someone may have information about Candace's last whereabouts, and are renewing their appeal to the public.

"We have three young children who want to know where their mother is," Cst. Casey Vinet said.

Barry Shpeley, who is now caring for his grandchildren, says the case of his missing daughter is wraught with apathy.

"It's amazing how many people go missing in B.C. and we just don't seem to care anymore, missing person whoopee, mother of three missing, whoopee, who cares?"

Anyone who sees Shpeley is asked to call 911 immediately, or call the IHIT TIP Line at 1-877-551-IHIT.
