Mounties are seeking witnesses to a tragic crash that claimed the life of an eight-year-old boy in Hope Wednesday afternoon.

The RCMP said the child was struck by a commercial truck in the 400-block of 6th Avenue around 12:30 p.m.

He was transported to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

The little boy's name hasn't been released, but Mounties said he is a resident of Hope. Victim services has been in contact with his family.

Investigators and members of the Fraser Valley Traffic Services, Lower Mainland District Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, the BC Coroners Service, and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement were all dispatched to the accident scene to help gather evidence.

The area was closed to traffic and it’s unclear how long it will take to reopen.

Mounties said the truck driver is fully cooperating with law enforcement.
