B.C.'s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the woman whose body was found in Surrey early Wednesday morning was murdered.

The body was discovered by a passerby in some bushes in the 13600-block of 104A Avenue in the Whalley area at around 7 a.m. The death was initially deemed suspicious, and on Friday afternoon police confirmed they were conducting a murder investigation.

The cause of death is not being released at this time.

The victim's identity has not been confirmed, Cpl. Dale Carr said in a statement, but police have "a couple of strong indicators" as to her identity. She is described as a mixed-race woman in her early 40s.
