The University of British Columbia's Museum of Anthropology was broken into and robbed of several pieces of valuable jewelry early Saturday.

An estimated 12 pieces of gold jewelry, including necklaces and bracelets from the Bill Reid collection, along with an undetermined number of ancient Mexican Inca necklaces, were stolen.

The value of the jewelry is unknown, according to UBC spokesperson Scott McRae.

RCMP are investigating.

The museum was closed all day on Saturday, but will reopen to visitors on Sunday.
