Police have confirmed the identity of a 15-year-old girl who died of her injuries this morning after being brutally attacked in North Delta.
Burnsview Secondary School student Laura Szendrei was assaulted in the Mackie Park area at around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. She was rushed to hospital, where she died with her family by her side.
Unconfirmed media reports suggest she was beaten with a baseball bat.
The Delta Police Department's Serious Crime Section is investigating Szendrei's death as a homicide.
No suspects have been identified and police have not determined whether the attack was random or targeted.
The Delta School Board plans to open the Burnsview Secondary at 3 p.m. Sunday to offer support and information to students and staff. Counsellors will be on hand.
