A snowstorm in Metro Vancouver caused commuter delays, school closures and ferry cancellations Wednesday.

A snowfall warning has been issued for the region with up to 20 centimetres expected to fall in higher elevations, with smaller amounts closer to sea level.

The main Simon Fraser University campus in Burnaby has been closed because the snow, as are all campuses of Douglas College, while some elementary and high schools in the region are also closed for the day.

In addition to the snow, high winds have forced BC Ferries to cancel all sailings between the mainland and Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands until the afternoon.

TransLink says there are numerous bus delays in Surrey and Delta due to traffic volume.

HandyDART is running essential services only in New Westminster, Tri-Cities, Vancouver and Richmond.
